L'une de mes artistes photographes préférées, Brooke Shaden en collaboration avec le groupe Sony | Alpha Female, ont lancé un défi créatif qui m'a totalement inspirée au début de l'année. Je voulais stimuler ma créativité, mais aussi réintégrer une routine créative qui me manquait tellement. Ma vie laissait peu de place à l'inspiration et à l'exploration, et c'était un excellent moyen de me relancer dans la création. Créer une image « complexe » par semaine s'est avéré trop chronophage... Apparemment, d'après mes habitudes, mon travail, mon style et de nombreux tests de personnalité, j'aime les choses complexes et stratifiées, lol.

One of my favourite photographer artists, Brooke Shaden in collaboration with Sony | Alpha Female, launched a creative challenge that totally inspired me earlier this year. I wanted to stimulate my creative juices but also to reincorporate a creative routine I was missing so much. My life left little room for inspiration and exploration and this was a fabulous way to kick-start some creation. Hashing out one ‘complex’ image per week turned out to be too much … apparently, according to previous patterns, work, styles and many personality tests … I like things layered and complex, lol.

Thème : Début
Les dernières lunes nous ont appelées à nous ancrer dans notre authenticité, à puiser dans notre source créative, notre pouvoir et notre divin féminin. ✨ Je regarde vers la lumière, dans un contenant de couleur et de vie, me libérant de ce qui ne me sert plus. Un rappel qu'au milieu du chaos, toutes les choses sont alignées, équilibrées et divines ; nous avons besoin de l'obscurité pour sentir la lumière, pour fleurir et commencer à nouveau.
Quand ton chien s’insère toutes les images captées … il n’y a rien d’autre à faire que de l’inclure dans la composition finale !
Theme : Beginning
This challenge, along with the past few moons, are begging us to step into our authentic selves, to tap into our creative source, our power and divine feminine. I'm looking into the light, in a container of life and colour, shedding what no longer serves me. A reminder that amidst the chaos, all things are aligned and balanced and divine; we need the darkness to feel the light, to bloom, and begin anew.
When your dog photo-bombs all the images, there’s nothing else to do but include him in the final composition !

Thème : Rouge
Ce thème a été frustrant pour moi, car trop d'idées, de sujets et de significations sont apparus : passion, désir, naissance, sang, faim, danger et la mort. Avec l’état du monde ces jours-ci, il m'était difficile de me concentrer sur une seule tangente. Je voulais illustrer tous les sentiments que le « rouge » évoquait en moi, mais je me sentais muette, incapable de tout exprimer. Et en fin de compte, il y a de multiples interprétations pour chaque élément, et c'est très correct ainsi, c'est ce qui lui donne du sens à mes yeux.
La façon dont les pièces s'assemblent est parfois intentionnelle, et parfois, c'est du pur hasard et c’est magique.
Theme : Red
This theme was frustrating for me as too many ideas, subject and meanings came up; passion, lust, birth, blood, hunger, danger Watch it every night and death. With the shit show of what’s happening in the world these days, it was hard to focus on one tangent. I was wanting to illustrate all the feelings that ‘red’ invoked in me, but I felt muted, unable to express it all. I had an initial idea of red lips and I let it flow from there. In the end, there are multiple interpretations to each element, and that’s okay, that’s what makes it meaningful to me.
The way the pieces fall together is sometimes intentional, and sometimes, it’s pure magic.

Thème : Lumière
Je voulais explorer le concept de la lumière … celle qui vient de l'intérieur. Une façon d'exprimer les difficultés que nous avons parfois à la ressentir, à la voir et à la laisser briller pour nous-mêmes et pour tous. Il s'agit aussi de l'idée que tout n'est qu'énergie ... transfert, échange et métamorphose, toujours.
Je me suis amusée à utiliser mon poi LED comme source de lumière et à créer des mouvements intentionnels pour former les ailes en forme d'infini. Jouer avec les longues expositions, le mouvement et des couches pour ajouter plus de profondeur et d'expression à la composition.
Theme : Light
I wanted to explore the concept of light, from within. A way to express the challenges we can have sometimes in feeling it, seeing it and letting it shine for ourselves and for all to see. It’s also about the idea that it’s all energy … transferring, exchanging and metamorphosing, always.
I had fun using my LED poi as a light source, and creating intentional movements to form the infinity ‘wings.’ Playing with long exposures, movement and layers to add more depth and expression to the composition.

Thème : Fantaisie
« Venez, les fées, emmenez-moi hors de ce monde terne, car je voudrais voyager avec vous sur le vent et danser au-dessus des montagnes comme une flamme ! » William Butler Yeats
Je suis maintenant en retard dans ce défi, car j'ai passé trop de temps sur cette image, mais je suis assez satisfaite du processus et du résultat. Cette courte citation semble correspondre parfaitement à l'ambiance.
Theme : Fantasy
“Come Fairies, take me out of this dull world, for I would ride with you upon the wind and dance upon the mountains like a flame !” William Butler Yeats
I am now behind on the challenge as too much time was spent on this image, but I’m quite satisfied with the process and the results. This short quote found seems to fit the mood perfectly.

Thème : Portrait
ÉCHEC ☝️ La focalisation est complètement ratée (mon objectif n'était pas correctement réglé sur l'autofocus et je ne m'en suis rendu compte qu'en postproduction), il y a une branche devant mon visage que je n'ai pas vu sans mes lunettes (j'avais oublié mes verres de contact), la composition est discutable, les couleurs (édition bizarre), des problèmes partout. Parfois, on se plante, et ce n'est pas grave.
La vie, c'est apprendre.
Cet échec et les choses de « la vie » ont mis fin à ma nouvelle routine créative. Une image par semaine était peut-être un peu trop ambitieux pour moi et mes visions, lol. Je garde en tête les thèmes de ce défi et je m'y remettrai peut-être plus tôt que plus tard, mais à mon rythme.

Theme : Portrait
FAIL ☝️ The focus is way off (my lens was not properly set on autofocus and didn’t realize it until postproduction), there’s a branch in my face that I failed to see without my glasses (forgot my contact lenses), the composition is questionable, the colours (weird editing), problems all around. Sometimes we just fuck up, and that’s okay.
Life is learning.
This drawback of a shoot and ‘life stuff ‘ happening halted my newly found creative routine. One image a week may have been a tad too ambitious for me and my ideas, visions and inspirations. I’m keeping track of the themes and maybe I’ll get back to it sooner than later, but on my own time.
