OBJECTIVE
My objective is to fabricate high-end shelving units with the capacity to house a light box. These are a functional way to create ambient light & to display my photographic transparency explorations...

The second thumbnail on the right represents three angles on the same image, notice the 3D effect. This is a technique I’ve been playing around with for a few years now. It’s an original concept that a mentor of mine once dubbed photo-sculpture.

The last thumbnail is a series of close-ups of the image slot and eco-friendly LED lighting system.

These light tables are art and functionality in one and are great conversational pieces.

Custom images can be ordered separately and can easily replace the Kaleidoscope theme image that comes with this unit. Alternate your images depending on the seasons, moods and décor!

The electrical wire is apparent in these installations but any good electrician can wire the system into your wall.

DIMENSIONS: 32.5 inches in length x 9 inches in width x 6.5 inches in depth

PROCESS
• Technical Drawing of shelving units using old-fashioned carpentry rules
• Fabrication of shelves using Poplar wood
• Assembly with tongue & groove, i.e. no nails! (The only screws used are to fasten the panel in the back of the light box to access the LED lighting system if ever necessary.)
• Dark shelves are stained with a water-based mixture of Walnut, Raw Umber & Burnt Sienna
• All shelves are finished with 100% Hempseed Oil

• Fresh Flowers are collected from my garden
• Digital Macro Photography of flowers in my home photography studio
• Photoshop montages of the Kaleidoscope inspired type
• Compilations of three final layers
• Printed on Duraclear photographic medium

[The photographs in this unit are printed on Duraclear medium which is no longer available to me in Montreal...
Any other units built after this series will have inkjet technology which I am still experimenting with!]

• Mounted in thick matt boards to separate layers
• Eco-friendly LED lights are fixed to back panel of light box [5000K - 50, 000 hours]
• Frosted plexi is placed behind images to diffuse light
• Clear plexi in front to protect them
• Images & plexi glasses are slid into their groove & caped
